The story of Groundcover Landscaping...
My name is Graeme Hopkins and my wife Michelle and I began Groundcover Landscaping in 2004.
I'm a Hamiltonian born and bred, and enjoy living in the mighty Waikato. I've always had a mathematical mind, so after leaving school, I found work as a quantity surveyor. Then in 1994 Michelle and I embarked on our OE and I found work at London's famous New Covent Garden Flower Market. This sparked an interest in plants and I decided I wanted to continue working in a job that involved being outdoors, as opposed to an office. After four years at the Flower Market, I landed a landscaping job working for long-established garden centre, Rassells, in Kensington in central London and realised this was the profession for me.
I spent two years at Rassells and learnt a huge amount, then we came back to New Zealand in 2000 where I began working for a local landscaping company. After three years there, I decided it was time to start my own company and in 2004 Groundcover Landscaping Ltd was born.
The company has been growing steadily since then, and we now have ten staff members including a Project Manager - to ensure your project runs smoothly, and an Estimator who prices all our quotes. Michelle does a lot of the administrative tasks to keep things ticking over behind the scenes. After years of working outdoors creating the landscaping for our clients, I'm now back in the office a lot of the time. A big part of my role is meeting potential new clients at Onsite Consultations - this is the best part of the job for me.
Together Michelle and I have two kids: Libby who is 12 years old, and Clara who is 9. They keep us entertained and on our toes! Our family time is spent swimming, bike-riding and admiring the girls' latest creative projects, plus we have a house we're renovating, so there's never a dull moment.
Why choose us?
The company's continued success is due to the high standard of customer service, with workmanship that is second to none. This is verified by written testimonials, many repeat clients, and our 7 Point Guarantee which our customers love.
In the past, the business was run from a home office, but we now work out of a yard and office space in Frankton - this has supported the growth of the company hugely - we needed the extra space!
We are pretty excited about what's ahead for Groundcover Landscaping and have big plans for the future.
