CHIONOCHLOA FLAVICANS

Some people think that chionochloa flavicans is a miniature toetoe, but in fact they are not related. It's quite a sculptural plant and is a great addition to any garden, especially if given some room (it will grow 1-2 metres in diameter) to show off its flowering plumes which last for many months over spring and summer. Plant lots of them if you have the space, or underneath open-branched trees like kowhai where it will still get lots of light. It also works well in rock gardens and mass-planted on banks. It's a hardy plant and doesn't have any issues with pests or diseases.
