DIANELLA NIGRA

This little plant will get to around 60cm tall, and even though it looks like a grass, it is actually a member of the lily family. In summer the tiny flowers transform into quite large berries, which vary in colour from pale lavender through to dark purple. This is another native that prefers a free-draining soil, but is fine in both sun and shade. Dianella nigra is great as a filler, or planted alongside divaricating shrubs such as corokia cotoneaster or muehlenbeckia astonii.
