LIBERTIA IXIOIDES

The New Zealand Iris looks very similar to a grass, but it is the pretty flowers and seeds on the plant that distinguish it. Libertia ixioides is fine in sun or shade, but it can prove to be irresistible to slugs and snails. If you decide to pull out the old dead leaves, make sure you hold the base of the plant with the other hand as they are shallow-rooted and you may pull the plant out completely. It makes a great filler, but also looks good mass-planted. It will grow to around 50cm high and wide.
